Daily Back up your Data
Weekly Update  antivirus/antispyware definitions and run a scan
Check CPU fan. PC case should not be warm
Monthly Run Microsoft Updates
Run Disk Cleanup  
Run "CHKDSK" and "CHKDSK /R"
Check browser security settings
Verify backup. Restore a file as a test
Change Login Password
Quarterly Run Defrag
Check available hard drive space
Test UPS
Yearly Clean PC
Run Diagnostic Software. Test memory.

The above maintenance suggestions are for average use. If your PC is in a dirty environment, it should be cleaned more frequently. If you are low on hard drive space, run Disk Cleanup and Defrag more often. Hardware diagnostics should be run on the PC at least once a year. The major PC manufacturers either provide a diagnostic program at time of purchase or you can download software from their Website. As the computer gets older, develop a replacement strategy.
